The Royal Marines are commandos attached to the Royal Navy, who may be deployed on sea or land. The Royal Marines Museum deals with the history of the Marines, who were formed in the mid-eighteenth-century. The museum holds special exhibitions on different aspects of marine activities past and present. It also has a large number of medals on display, including 10 Victoria Crosses.
The museum is housed in Eastney Barracks on Eastney Esplanade in Southsea, which was originally the home of the Royal Marine Artillery.
